The concept for the film script came from the
fans. I’ve been asked many times by
fans, “Did Motti escape the Death Star?”
I started replying that Motti
did escape and
Vader sent Captain Piett to find me. The whole project grew out of fans at
Q&A’s. As a great fan of Apocalypse Now I started
embellishing the answers and the idea was firmly planted. There
is also an important footnote; George Lucas was very involved with Apocalypse,
he was going to direct it at one point. As a fan of Troops and numerous other
Star Wars fan films I wrote a draft of the script and showed it to several
fellow actors who liked it.
The production values were always going to be
high so the project didn’t progress until a serious Star Wars fan offered to
back it.
The project didn’t get past pre-production
because the backer’s wife had no idea her husband was such a huge fan. When she discovered his vast collection of
Star Wars memorabilia, his armor, cancelled checks for numerous conventions and
the email offering to put up seven thousand dollars to make Motti
Now, she threatened divorce.
He quite rightly pulled out of the film.
He has never attended another convention and
his fate remains a mystery...
The option of having the film animated then presented
itself. I thought it would be great to
have actors from Star Wars do the voices. Some of the voice tracks and some of the sound
effects have now been recorded. Ken Colley has reprised his role as Captain
Piett. I voiced Motti and Jerome Blake, who does the
best Vader impersonation, has recorded Vader. Garrick Hagon and Jeremy Bulloch are lined up
to do Troopers 3 and 4. We plan to add
more actors from the films.
If anyone can help with
animation contacts or anything else please get in touch with me via the site.
We would like to see Motti
Now completed.
