>>>classic fm have compiled a chart of the top 40 most popular movie soundtracks, and john williams has a very impressive showing.  click here for the chart to see where star wars and other williams entries were placed.
>>>revenge of the sith pulled in an estimated $55.1 million over the three-day weekend, down 49 percent from its $108.4 million opening frame. with an amazing $271.2 million after 12 days, sith already ranks as the 26th highest grossing picture of all time, set new records for nine-day to 12-day grosses and is ahead of where attack of the clones and the phantom menace were at the same point.  worldwide, the total now stands at $520,093,000 in a mere 12 days, the 32nd most successful film ever, just behind monsters inc and within $18.3 million of passing the empire strikes back.
>>>we have made some corrections to our album page, with some spelling errors in the return of the jedi-special edition liner notes corrected.  many thanks to our australian friend mark who spotted them.
monday 30th may 2005
>>>mark newbold add the latest story to Lightsabre. shayy is the story of shayy, padawan apprentice to the setnin jedi knight ade-arr b'erain and her battles on the fields of salutarr during the separatist invasion of the clone wars.  but will her masters visions of her violent death come true?  for a slice of rise of glann cipple era action, go to the timeline section on the sidebar, scroll down to the rise of glann cipple era and read on.
sunday 29th may 2005
>>>we continue our site reload with the eleventh section of the Lightsabre chronology, the golden age.  to read the many stories within, go to the sidebar, click on chronology and hit the golden age for some prime-time, original trilogy-era action, or click on the link right here.  stories of note from the golden age include jonathan hicks' lost on hoth and only at your local holovid theatre and mark newbolds the tatooine effect and ready or not.  so get there and get reading.
>>>revenge of the sith continues its record breaking run as more box office records tumble.  by its ninth day of release it had taken $215,913,000, beating spider-man 2's previous record of $211,257,583.  so far, every domestic american opening record has fallen to sith apart from best seven day total, less than a million dollars behind spider-man 2, and best opening weekend (friday, saturday, sunday) again to spidey.  worldwide as of may 27th the total stands at $372,331,058, topping hitch as the worlds most successful movie of 2005 in a mere 9 days.  now the questions can be asked - after the memorial weekend, just how far can sith go, especially in the face of growing competition from films such as madagascar, batman begins and war of the worlds.  at the moment, phantom menace-type numbers are not beyond the realms of possibility.
saturday 28th may 2005
>>>more interesting news regarding the much mooted old, old republic movie project that has been lighting the internet this past week. george lucas was quoted as saying the following at celebration 3.  "well, we have a TV series and an animated series and depending how those do, this is something we might someday visit ... but it's too far out to really commit to anything."  interesting news, and perhaps more fuel to the fire that revenge of the sith may not be the last star wars movie, although it has also been mentioned by lfl employees that lucas is also looking at dvd premieres as well as tv series and internet-based projects to continue the star wars saga.
>>>more than 200 uk cinemas have been chosen to recieve lottery money to cut back on hollywood films in favour of british, classic and arthouse movies.  half the chosen cinemas are owned by two multiplex chains - cine-uk, which runs cineworld and ucg, and vue. for more on this exciting development in the life of digital cinema, go to the bbc website.

>>>we continue our in-depth look into the ships, characters and worlds of the setnin sector with a look at the starship tears-of-an-angel, the latest entry in our in-depth section which can be found off the sidebar through guides.
>>>rumours are rife on the net claiming that george lucas is considering a star wars movie set 800 years before the events of phantom menace, showing the last battles against the dark lords and featuring a young yoda.  a clip from a 2004 interview says "he said, that if he did ever do another storyline.... that he would do when the jedi regained control of the universe from the dark lords (there were many of them) 800 years before phantom menace. and a young Jedi named yoda was instrumental in the effort."  sites such as theforce.net and ain't-it-cool.com have poured scorn on this news, first mentioned in the uk's daily star, and while lucas has certainly found his touch again on the big screen, this would certainly make a great setting for a live-action series.  stay tuned for more news on this hot rumour, but remember - it's merely a rumour, and an unsubstantiated one at that.
>>>orange have launched their own star wars website to promote both the film and their nokia 3220 phone.  for a closer look at the phone and the site, click here.
>>>jakks pacific are gearing up to push their plug and play system, one that only requires batteries and a tv set, by sending us a link to video clips of the game.  click here for a preview of the game and take a look at this fun and engaging games system.
>>>friend of the site david guivant had a fantastic star wars moment recently,  when his short film l-cheapo was screened at the grand rex theatre in paris.  fans there were also interested in his short star wars film george lucas: legend of the force.  but perhaps the most exciting moment was meeting revenge of the sith producer rick mccallum as he prepared to travel to the cannes film festivalmccallum also intended to watch guivants short film.

>>>we continue to spotlight selected characters from the Lightsabre archives.  today we feature one of the best starship thieves to unpick a lock, nias derril...

nias derril

This human co-pilot of Yorath Devalis was also an expert starship engineer, and a computer and security expert.  Piloting the starship Freedom Flyer with his droid CB-2, Derril was friends with the bounty hunter Tarr Ranth and the assassin Goah Galletti.  Due to the damage of a bomb which ripped through his ship at the same time as the bombs that hit Bad Luck Beon Odiss and Jan Lomona Derril lost both of his legs, some of his lower torso, both lower arms and suffered severe nerve damage. It took six months to heal properly including a month in a bacta tank. His fiancé Aleria Constance also died.  He has became a paranoid depressive, controlled by an addiction to spice provided by the Raven. His brain no longer provided enough endorphins and he was prone to bouts of anger, always looking for a reason to go on and hides this from his friends.  Derril later managed to secure an Imperial Star Destroyer, which he named the Constance to use as his base for starship repair and docking facilities, the ISD housed the mind and soul of his late wife Constance.  A major player throughout the sector in this regard, he assisted the rebellion against the Ki-Ki invasion alongside his good friend Blake De’Athe and colleague Jan Lomona.

>>>revenge of the sith just keeps on racking up those box office figures.  its domestic total as of monday is now $172,802,507 with the international total $156,418,058, adding up to a stunning total of $329,220,565 in just five days.  now the final star wars epic is racking up all kinds of records, becoming the joint fastest to hit $100 million along with spider-man and matrix reloaded (three days, although counted in hours it is likely top), the biggest opening/single day ($50,013,859 including the thursday 12.01am previews) the biggest three day ($124,237,232) four day ($158,449,700) and five day hauls ($172,802,507).  already it is less than $5 million behind the years biggest hit, the will smith vehicle hitch, which has taken since february 11th to gross $177,575,142 domestic and a total of $360,026,349 worldwide. internationally it took just five days to accumulate $329,220,565, another blockbusting record.  stay tuned to Lightsabre for more news of revenge's progress at the box office.
