Equipment and Technology
Guide A.I.D – Altimeter ID Laser. A targeting device common to many weapons used throughout the Setnin Sector. This device enables snipers and hitmen to
acquire their target and `tag' their victim - a laser spot honing in and virtually
attaching itself. Useful for high
places and firing into the air. A.S. Glue – Armour Strength Glue. Vital for swift fixture of hull plating
weapons mountings or any mechanical sealing.
A swift adhesive, AS Glue is corrosive to the touch and once used only
broken down by blasts of tremendous heat. Ammo Dump – Locker-sized area for depositing spare weapon
packs and energy modules aboard starships.
A secure unit, any radiation emitted from the packs is recycled and
utilised by the operating systems of the ship, or deposited into the depths
of space where it will dissipate harmlessly. Astro Blanket – A sleeping bag made from military grade
materials. Auto Search Tuner – Mechanism used on isolated and inhospitable
worlds where the bandwidths are narrow and reception is weak. An AST is a useful implement to have, being
only palm sized but capable of receiving even the weakest signals. BAR-4 Rifle -
Over-and-under twin barrelled rifle with two miniature rocket launchers
mounted on either side, this was the preferred weapon of Luschia Arkensaw,
and one which saw regular action. Binary Engine Tuner – A vital tool for pilots of the DD-24 `V-Wing’ Fighter. The Novaldec
J-77 binary engine was a notoriously finicky engine to work upon, and the
BET made life a touch easier for its pilots. Bizz Box – A personal, security encoded attaché case for
businessmen. Used by the Imperial
agent `Doc’ Harrys whilst trying
to escape the assassination attempts of Kaile
Mirrener and Luschia Arkensaw while
on Chancai. BP-43 Snipers Rifle –
Type preferred and used by the mercenary Ryath Centaur and the Amagad fighter Travees. It was a BP-43 that Centaur used to cause
panic and confusion in the death pits on the planet Heggarra. Brain Hover – A torture device used to greater or lesser
effect by many of the Setnin Sectors shadier denizens, the Brain
Hover is a cheap and effective means of extracting information from an
unwilling recipient. Crude in its
design, prolonged use of the Hover invariably results in the death of the
victim. Not always used by the
underworld a Brain Hover was used on Hindley
Galletti after his capture and subsequent torture aboard the first Death Star. Calin Cards – A-desandian card game,
mastered by the smuggler Jan Lomona
and played whilst journeying to the planet Abrogard to conduct the vital D’Staan trade agreement which cemented Glann Cipple as the major player in the Setnin Sector. Camera Buckle – Small, unobtrusive recording device used by
field agents and spy organisations in the Setnin and surrounding
sectors. Able to avoid detection due
to the materials used in its construction, the Camera Buckle was a useful, if
miniature piece of equipment. Credit Entry Slot – Area on most self-service devices where
credits, dataries and Donalees can be inserted. D4 Astromech Droid – The sector standard droid for the Setnin Sector, most work Droids were
of the D4 Astromech class.
Manufactured mainly on Penn,
the D4 is a hardy workhorse, tough and durable and well able to withstand the
myriad climate and temperature changes throughout the sector. DL 1 – 9 – Spices mined primarily from the spice mines of Gista and the spice caves of Noscage. DL, meaning Drug or Dosage Level, comes in
nine varieties. DL-1 is a mildly
addictive, low class tobacco-type narcotic.
DL-9 is a substance so potent that possession is punishable by instant
execution under Imperial law. Each level of DL spice differs in
appearance, but all are highly illegal and once used it almost always
promotes the craving to try a higher level – a stairway of addiction that
leads to eventual death. Whilst being
deadly to humans, many alien races can bear the effects of higher potency DL
levels and the drug is used as a medicinal agent. Donalees – The planetary currency of Zelon. A strong buoyant
currency, the Donalee is usually worth three
galactic credits. Rarely used outside
of the Yatchrare System, the Donalee is the preferred coinage on Chancai – although any and every denomination is accepted in the
busiest trade site in the Setnin
Sector. E.D.S – Known colloquially as the Eddies, or the Extra Defence Systems, this back-up system is a
regular redundancy system fitted into all new Desando Dynamic’s starships.
Also available as a retrofitted package, the E.D.S. system has proved
to be Desando’s most popular optional extra. E.E.F.E – Emergency Engine Fire Extinguisher. Usually to be found at the rear of the
engine housing, this heavy-duty fire extinguisher is available for use in
case the on board extinguishers fail.
Often required for insurance purposes, the EEFE can withstand a
tremendous ammount of heat before failure and is
often the only remaining component of exploding starships along with the
black box. E.O.C – Emergency Oxygen Cylinder. Usually the size of a regular Blaster pack,
the cylinder fits just above the collar of the wearer and is activated by the
depression of the E.O.Stud. E.O.Stud – Emergency Oxygen Stud. Fitted to space suits and zero-gravity
kits, the E.O.Stud filters oxygen to the wearer in
case of main system failure from the E.O.Cylinder. Only
able to carry a few minutes oxygen, this portable mouthpiece is activated by
a thumb compression switch, and has saved the lives of many pilots whose time
would have surely been up without it. ES-62 Gaveera Series – The first weapon
that Tarr Ranth bought off Grabby Cap. With a shortened stock and dart shooter,
this easily modified weapon was a popular purchase and feted by Cap as a
weapon that had never let him down. E.S.T – Emergency Signal Tracer. An invaluable piece of ordinance for
soldiers and operatives lost in the wastes, jungles or deserts of the Setnin Sector. Essentially a mini sensor package, the EST
is capable of picking up the faintest traces of signal and amplifying it,
making it audible to the listener. Energy Trolley –Metre square hoversled
used to transport luggage and small deliveries from starship to customs bays. Fuel Modulator – Device useful on long haul stardrives,
the Fuel Modulator regulates exactly the ammount of
fuel passing through the engine, saving money and time. If the mix/time ratio is exact, and the
course plotted in the nava-computer before hand then the engine is allowed to
operate at peak capacity. Grain Chute – Found on most agricultural worlds, this is a
colloquial term for the large load lifters which carry grains, spices and
illegal sugars through the busy starports and docking bays of the Mid-Rim. Grav Compensator – A vital component aboard any and every vehicle
which exerts g-forces upon its passengers.
Perfected on the Setnin
planet A-desando, grav
compensators enable the pilot and crew of any swift craft free movement about
their craft without feeling the pressures of g-force or zero-g. Hand Lume – Hand held illumination device often used by
smugglers, pirates, bounty hunters and various other professionals while in
dense jungles, forests or swamps.
Powerful and durable, hand lumes are often
attached to the wrist and aimed at objects. HVR-4 – Hover Platform. One metre
in circumference, these metallic platforms are commonly seen in the trade
halls of Chancai and are used also on the busy floors
of the Chancai Stock Exchange.
Plasooka - Intensely powerful shoulder mounted weapon capable
of massive damage. Using a
concentrated super heated gas, the weapon fires towards the target and then
ignites the gas, incinerating the target and burning for a further eight
seconds. Larger versions of the Plasooka were constructed but deemed too dangerous and
were made illegal. Grabby Cap is one of many numerous
weapons salesmen prepared to flaunt the law and sell these weapons to the Setnin underworld. TY-96 – Rifle used by Goah Galletti and the Amagad-based fighter Jarvi while defending the
ravaged world from Janite attacks and pirate
incursions. Not always a truly deadly
weapon, the TY-96 was useful in assassination hits because of its
effectiveness at long range. |
