Lightsabre: the best of 2007

2006 had been a watershed year for Lightsabre, with more big-name interviews than ever before, our setnin selects reaching a milestone 200 issues and the countdown to celebration europe.  but 2007 proved to be much, much bigger.  interviews with such names as irvin kershner, billy dee williams, rick mccallum and stephen sansweet raised our profile.  the start of our quest for freedom comic adaptation gathered much attention as did our fund-raising efforts at celebration europe.  with 2008 already promising more big-name guests we're making sure Lightsabre keeps going from strength to strength.

5: new alliances

not since the halcyon days of 1999 has Lightsabre had so much interaction with other sites and fans.  2007, and celebration europe, brought together a vast array of webmasters, collectors and fellow enthusiasts.  in 2007 neil bakers turning to the dorkside has been running on the site, we've become close working partners with galactic empire network and the fantastic jedi news and continued to have a presence on the official blogs.  despite the end of the movie saga, star wars looks stronger than ever.

4: convention reports

as well as celebration 4 and europe there were a great many conventions happening across the globe, celebrating the 30th anniversary of the saga, and Lightsabre managed to be there for many of them.  our north american reporter chris gereke reported back on the san diego comic convention and reunion 2 in paris, while return of the jedi actor gerald home filled us in on the spectacular dagobah 2007 and spaceport conventions.  also covering memorabilia and starfest, Lightsabre brought you many different views of the anniversary, not least in our own extensive celebration europe coverage.

3: quest for freedom

it's been a long held dream to have an adaptation of Lightsabre's first 1982 story on the site.  an attempt was made back in 1986, but it wasn't until we stumbled across richard skidmore that the project got underway.  by late 2007 issue 2 was almost complete, telling half of the story of quest for freedom, and 2008 will bring the concluding two issues, drawn by artist dan biesel and the sequel, the lydon legacy, drawn by tim wann.

2: interviews with the stars

Lightsabre is these days best known for it's star interviews, and in 2007 we chatted to more big name star wars alumni than ever before.  the rarely interviewed donald f glut, l neil smith, jerome blake, don bies, j w rinzler, pablo hidalgo, charles ross, danny wagner, jeremy bulloch, daniel logan and more besides.  we continued our webmasters interviews, bringing interviews with prominent movers and shakers in the fan community and 2008 promises even more big name discussions with the stars of the saga...

1: celebration europe

it was THE event of 2007, the place to be for any genuine star wars fan and a weekend that will live in the memory for a long time.  setting the bar high for any future events, celebration europe had it all.  star guests - anthony daniels, mark hamill, rick mccallum, ian mcdiarmid - great guest artists - joe corroney, adam hughes, randy martinez, cynthia cummens - star signings, guest discussions, trailers for and a chat with the cast and designers of the force unleashed, a big screen showing of a new hope, costume shows, art exhibitions, an assault course for the kids, an amazing dealers area and a sense of camaraderie that made the entire event a success.  a better way to celebrate the saga couldn't be had.
