celebration europe - john culshaw

One of the many aspects that helped to promote and push the public visibility of Celebration Europe was the amazing radio and internets adds that impressionist John Culshaw recorded.
Locked away in a recording studio somewhere on the Death Star, John spent a few hours nailing the characters and recording regional variations.  Here's some photographs of the day and the ads themselves...

Barry - "Here are a few pics of the recording session with John. His voices were simply amazing and he is a huge SW fan."

John makes it a special edition

Barry - "He delivered 90% of the lines without any rehearsal and can quote Star Wars lines up there with the best of them. It was an honor to work with him.  As you can see we used a highly technical and top secret piece of sound engineering to get a booming metallic echo to Lord Vader….. Yes that is a dustbin ;-)"

Barry - "We just could not get the twang to the voice and then I remembered seeing an old on set Star Wars photo with Ben Burtt  doing something similar."

 

John's wookiee pause...

Barry - "They all thought I was mad, but it worked. It’s the only ‘effect’  we used. Everything else was 100% John."
