As a busy leader of a huge entertainment corporation George Lucas is faced daily with difficult decisions, but none trickier than the choice of which flannel shirt to wear.  George knows that the choice of shirt determines the `mood' he is setting for the day, and he always aims to give the right impression.  Here, described by the great man himself, are just a sample of the shirts he has in his arsenal.

"I like this shirt as it makes me feel strong and powerful.  When I'm shooting an action scene, like the
Mustafar battle between Ben and Anakin, I wore this shirt.  I always find that if I feel empowered, then
the actors feed off that vibe and give me a better performance.  Sometimes if I feel like it I'll get up
there and act the scene out, to show them what I want them to do.  for a long time there was talk of
giving Hayden a grey beard as I was acting out his fight scenes better than he was."
"This shirt says control to me.  There are certain times when I want to be noticed on set, when I need
to be noticed.  This shirt does the job for me.  On Phantom Menace we had a large battle scene
with thousands of Gungans, and they can be difficult to direct.  I found that when I wore my red
flannel they were easy to control.  I also found dangling bright, shiny things in front of them worked
as well.  It's a tactic I learned on Jedi with the Ewoks.  The Sarlacc responded well too."
"Being in charge of so many different companies I often find myself floating between board meetings,
effects meetings, dailies, costume departments and my daily hair styling and chin massage.  This flannel is
very neutral, I can merge in and float between my duties and barely be noticed. In fact, I was wearing
this very shirt when it was decided to have Greedo shoot first in the Special Edition.  I wanted the scene
to be left as it was, but I don't think the ILM guys took much notice of me."
"This is my special effects shirt, and one I wore a lot on the Prequels.  I find this one to be very
useful because I found I could stand right beside Jar Jar as we were doing takes and really `direct' him,
tell him what to do, where to stand and when to say stuff.  In fact, if you watch Phantom Menace closely
you'll notice me in the background.  I was the one rolling those blue energy balls towards him.  I also
drove the tank at the beginning of the film.  Luckily Liam is pretty nimble on his feet."
"I wear this shirt usually near the end of a shoot.  This flannel says `resolution' to me, and is really
very important.  I remember wearing it when we finished Raiders and I had to have it repaired as bits
of Belloq's head were all over it.  On Clones they crew threw me into the lake after the wedding scene,
and on Revenge of the Sith someone thought it would be funny to pack up all the gear and leave me
in the desert.  I guess that was kind of fitting.  Besides, this shirt has a full survival pack in the pouch."
"I wore my pink flannel shirt for the love scene between Padme and Anakin in Clones. It was all about
setting the right mood.  I always get emotional wearing this shirt because it has so many happy memories
for me.  I wore it during the Han and Leia kiss scene in Empire, at the end of Temple of Doom when
Harrison kissed Kate and when Tarful and Chewie waved goodbye to Yoda in Episode 3.  We were kind of
hinting at something there but I lost my shirt in a card game so it never panned out."
"These are my trusty back up flannels.  I always carry a standard pack of flannels with me, just in case my
luggage is lost or misplaced.  I learned way back when I was making THX that without my flannels I'm
just not the same film maker.  On THX the cops had shiny, faceless masks on, but originally they had clowns
faces.  We shot about an hour of footage, and remember, back then THX was played by Orson Welles.  One
day I came in wearing a flannel and everything changed.  Orson went and so did the clowns.  I just wish I'd
not lost my entire collection of shirts when I was making Howard the Duck."
"This is probably the most important shirt in my entire collection.  This is my template shirt, the one on which
all the others were based.  In fact, this is the flannel I'm most likely to wear to a date.  It emits a strong
pheromone that I can use to influence the weak minded.  Not many people know this but I actually based the
entire mythology of the Force on this flannel shirt.  Originally Yoda was wearing a shirt like this the first time we
saw him in Empire.  The only other person in the world with the same shirt is (WWE superstar) Mick Foley."
"That's me in my awards flannel collecting a solid chocolate coin in amber and a certificate of authenticity
from the University of Bourneville.  I often wear this shirt as it gives off a number of signals to the people
around me.  It's not a million miles away from my power shirt and my special effects shirt, but it also has a
hint of my floating around flannel, so I can merge into the background if I want to.  In fact, after this photo
was taken, me and Steve (Spielberg) stole Pete's (Jackson) car and went drag racing around the car park."

"This is me and Jango working on a scene for Clones.  There are a few things about this picture that folks
probably don't know.  First is that it was originally going to be me playing Jango until the prop guys told me
that you could see the flannel through the armor and it didn't look so good, and secondly that this wasn't
shot on location but was actually acted out against a blue sheet in my kitchen.  Digital technology has come
a long way in the last thirty years, and so has flannel."
