Lethal Alliance

Twi'lek heroics on the PSP and DS

Review by Mark Newbold

Twi'leks aren't normally known for their heroics - with the honourable exception of Aayla Secura - but this new PSP and Nintendo DS release goes a long way to changing the face of these normally dark characters.

Following the character of Rianna Saren, a slave who escaped her master at the expense of one of her lekku and who became a mercenary against the Empire, Lethal Alliance is set between the events of Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, right where the much anticipated television series will be set.  Featuring a swathe of familiar movie and EU characters, including Black Sun, Kyle Katarn and Princess Leia, this game zips along at a great pace, taking Rianna from Mustafar to Tatooine, Coruscant to Alderaan and a dramatic chapter on the Death Star.

For a game designed to be played on the smaller screens of the DS and PSP this sure holds a lot of details and comes across brilliantly.  A classic shoot 'em up, it's interesting to note that the main focus of the attack in the game is blaster and not Lightsabre based, which is excellent as that suits the underworld sensibilities of the story perfectly.

With the ability to be played via wi-fi or in multiplayer node, Lethal Alliance is a great addition to the Star Wars cannon and sits comfortably in the time frame between Sith and A New Hope without spoiling too many surprises.

A good solid and more to the point , fun game.
